About Mawsynram Rainforest Region

Mawsynram holds the current Guinness World Record as the world's wettest place, receiving an average of 11,872 mm of rainfall annually, with the rain falling almost continuously from May to September. The surrounding forest is an extraordinary misty wonderland of mosses, ferns, giant pitcher plants, and dripping rock faces where miniature waterfalls cascade from every overhang. The local Khasi villages have developed a unique culture around living in the world's rainiest landscape, including the use of special umbrella-like shields woven from bamboo called 'knups'.
