About Agumbe Rainforest
Agumbe is the rainiest inhabited place outside northeast India, receiving an average of 7500 mm of rainfall annually, and has been called the 'Cherrapunji of the South'. The Agumbe Rainforest Research Station — founded by herpetologist Rom Whitaker — has made this village globally famous as the world's foremost centre for King Cobra research and conservation. The sunsets from Agumbe are celebrated across India, with the Arabian Sea visible through the forest canopy to the west.
