About Dehing Patkai Rainforest

Dehing Patkai National Park protects the largest remaining tract of lowland tropical rainforest in India, a forest type that has been almost entirely lost to agriculture and oil exploration across the Brahmaputra valley. Called the 'Amazon of the East' for its extraordinary species richness and the density of its canopy, the park's semi-evergreen and evergreen forest hides a world of biodiversity including the rare Hoolock gibbon, whose haunting morning duets carry across the mist-filled valleys. The park was established only in 2021, following a long conservation campaign.
