About Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Rainforest

Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve is the largest protected area in Tamil Nadu and one of the 18 Biodiversity Hotspot areas of the Western Ghats, sheltering an extraordinary diversity of endemic and endangered species in the southern tip of the Ghats. The reserve receives abundant rainfall from both the southwest and northeast monsoons, sustaining dense tropical wet evergreen forest year-round. It connects directly to the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve, together forming one of the most important conservation landscapes in peninsular India.
