About Dumboor Waterfall Region
The Dumboor Waterfall region around the Gumti River in Gomati district is less a single dramatic plunge and more a network of cascades and rapids flowing through and around the 48 islands of the Dumboor Lake — one of Tripura's most ecologically rich and visually distinctive landscapes. The combination of river water tumbling through a maze of forested islands, the extraordinary birdlife of the lake, and the serene forest atmosphere makes Dumboor one of northeast India's most rewarding destinations for nature travellers.
Dumboor Lake and its surrounding cascades are best explored by boat, winding through the forested channels between the 48 islands. The lake's birdlife is exceptional — over 100 species including the Indian skimmer, black-necked stork, and great thick-knee have been recorded. The Tripura Sundari temple on one of the islands adds a spiritual dimension to the journey, and the cascades that link the main lake to the river below provide gentle but photogenic white-water scenes framed by forest.
September–November when the monsoon has passed but water levels remain high and forest is lush.
A telephoto lens from a boat captures the island cascades without disturbing the wildlife on the banks.
