About Neyyar Forest

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thiruvananthapuram district is the southernmost forest reserve of the Western Ghats on the Indian mainland, protecting a range that rises from sea-level paddy fields to the Agasthyamala peak at 1868 metres. The Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve — of which Neyyar forms a part — is considered the southern anchor of the entire Western Ghats ecosystem. The sanctuary is an important corridor for lion-tailed macaques and elephants moving between the western Kerala forests and the Tamil Nadu Ghats.
