About Nokrek Rainforest

Nokrek National Park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of global significance, protecting the Nokrek Peak and surrounding Garo Hills forest that contains wild Citrus indica — the direct ancestor of all cultivated citrus fruits on earth, from oranges to lemons to grapefruits. This single botanical discovery makes Nokrek irreplaceable in global food security terms, and the forest is now protected as a citrus gene bank of incalculable value. The park's misty Garo Hills forest also shelters red pandas at the eastern limit of their range.
