About Kudremukh Rainforest
Kudremukh National Park protects one of the most important Shola-grassland ecosystems in the Western Ghats UNESCO World Heritage Site, receiving up to 7000 mm of rainfall annually and feeding three major peninsular rivers — the Bhadra, Tunga, and Netravathi. The lion-tailed macaque, one of the world's rarest primates, swings through the dense shola canopy, and the Malabar large-spotted civet — so elusive it went undocumented for decades — prowls the forest floor at night. Kudremukh, meaning 'horse-face mountain', is named for the distinctive profile of its highest peak.
