About Karlapat Rainforest

Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary in the Kalahandi district is a relatively unknown but ecologically significant moist deciduous forest in the southern Eastern Ghats. The sanctuary's forested hills and seasonal streams shelter a community of mammals typical of the drier Eastern Ghats, including large populations of sloth bears and wild boars. The sanctuary provides important watershed protection for the Hati River and its tributaries, serving the agricultural plains of the Kalahandi valley below.
