About Bhadra Forest

Bhadra Tiger Reserve in the Chikmagalur and Shimoga districts shelters one of the most intact moist deciduous and evergreen forest complexes in the eastern Western Ghats, with the Bhadra River providing the lifeblood of the ecosystem. The reserve has a recovering tiger population and is notable for its exceptionally high density of gaur — Indian bison — whose massive herds move through the teak and rosewood forest. The Muthodi section of the reserve receives tourists while the Lakkavalli section remains strictly protected.
