About Bee Falls

Bee Falls near Pachmarhi — the only hill station in Madhya Pradesh — is one of the most popular waterfalls in central India, reaching through a forest trek that forms part of the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve. The 35-metre cascade falls in a broad sheet across sandstone rock into a natural pool, with a distinctive hollow behind the waterfall where visitors can stand and look outward through the water curtain — one of the few "behind the falls" experiences in India. The surrounding Pachmarhi forest is rich in wildlife including leopards, sambar, and the Indian giant squirrel.

The Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve that contains Bee Falls is one of India's most important hill-forest ecosystems, and the surrounding landscape includes remarkable prehistoric rock art sites (the Bhimbetka-equivalent of the Satpura) and the sacred Chauragarh Shiva temple at 1326 metres. The trek to Bee Falls through the biosphere reserve passes by several of these prehistoric art sites, making the experience simultaneously natural and archaeological. Satpura National Park, just south of Pachmarhi, offers the full Central India wildlife experience alongside the waterfall visit.

September–December for good flow and dry forest conditions. The behind-the-falls hollow gives rare silhouette opportunities.

💡 Pro tip

Stand inside the hollow behind the falls and shoot outward — the water curtain creates a translucent veil through which the forest beyond is visible as an abstract impressionistic scene.
